That stranger may then have the confidence to do something amazing, such as ask someone on a date, all from your simple expression of humanity.
Some exercises are beneficial to may people, such as the example above, whilst others are truly personal. For example, in one exercise Siegel encourages you to find your 'Theme Song' the song, or piece of music which brings a smile to your face and uplifts you, what ever your mood. In another he prescribes a 'smile journal' for you to write down the details of every time you laugh or smile, and use them when things get tough.
