Average Woman 'hosts' up to 515 chemicals per day
And most of these don't come from pollutants already in the air - they are self-inflicted when women innocently spray on deodorant, slap on body moisturiser and carefully apply lipstick each morning.
The shocking new survey by Bionsen deodorants reveals a standard woman's beauty regime can result in her carrying a staggering 515 chemicals on her body each day.
With today's average woman using body and facial moisturisers, perfumes, deodorants and various make up products (moisturiser can contain over 30 different chemicals and perfume up to 400), women can unknowingly carry hundreds of chemicals on their bodies throughout the day.
More than a third of women who took part in the study by Bionsen deodorants were unaware of the key ingredients in their toiletries, with only 9% being aware of most of the ingredients they apply to their skin each day.
Even more staggering was that 71% of the women polled said they weren't concerned about the number of chemicals they put on their skin and that only one in ten actually opt for chemical-free toiletries when shopping.
Charlotte Smith from Bionsen - an aluminium and paraben free deodorant range, which carried out the poll - comments:
"The results showed a lack of concern amongst the majority of women over the number of chemicals they carry on their bodies - the fact that only one in ten women opt for chemical-free products when shopping for toiletries is particularly alarming.
"Making small, healthier changes with your toiletries can make a big difference to the amount of chemicals you carry on your body each day. Bionsen is free from aluminum and parabens - and is a healthier, more natural alternative to anti-perspirants. There have also been some suggested links between aluminium and parabens and breast cancer. Bionsen therefore provides a safer option for those women concerned about the possible associations.
