Shelley Kirkup

Shelley Kirkup and Rosemary Conley

The term "Mid life Crisis" is a bit clichéd, but there does seem to be a point in life when "what" and "why" become huge, unanswerable questions.

This is exactly what happened to a Chepstow mum, Shelley Kirkup. She was working very long, stressful hours as a Company Accountant in the motor trade industry and was away from her family much more than she wanted.

When considering alternative employment options Shelley looked to something that would hold her interest and give her more time at home. Finally, 6 years ago, she took the plunge and became a Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Franchisee, a job that combines her interest in fitness with the fascinating subject of nutrition.

Following 6 months of training, Shelley started her 12 classes and - 6 years later is still highly motivated by her job. "Helping members to take control of their lives, and seeing them gain in confidence is very rewarding - and we have a lot of fun in class" Shelley says. Only 3 times in the last 6 years has she missed a class (through illness). She has also continued her studies with the College of Naturopathic and Complementary Medicine (London) and is now a qualified Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist.

Another aspect of the job that Shelley enjoys is the fundraising that she does with her members, in 5 years they have raised nearly £8,000 for her favourite charity Diabetes UK. This year, Rosemary Conley and 20 agents worked together to raise a fantastic sum of over £29,000 for Diabetes UK.

Recently, at a glittering presentation evening in Nottingham, Rosemary Conley presented Shelley with a Five Year Award for Services. Her life now is dramatically changed from her Accountant days - but Shelley has no regrets and loves what she does. Her zest for life is infectious, making her an excellent example of what can be achieved by reacting to a "mid-life crisis" in a positive way.

So what are you waiting for?
