The Seaberry

Taywell's extensive product range has now been joined by a new local superfood.

Ever keen to experiment with new product ranges and bring its customers sustainable, locally-sourced, healthy food, Taywell – with stores in Tunbridge Wells and Goudhurst – has just introduced the Seaberry Health Drink. Available from the chiller in a 250ml glass bottle, the Seaberry Drink complements the fresh juice range from Taywell - including Pure Orange Juice, Apple Juice and Pear Juice.

The Seaberry, or Sea-buckthorn, is an Asian superfood and Bockingfold Farm in Goudhurst, Kent is the first place in the UK to grow the crop commercially. The farm is owned by Alastair Jessel, the entrepreneur behind the Taywell brand. “We’ve experimented with many kinds of exotic crops in the past,” he says. “Seaberries are probably one of the most exciting for their health benefits. The downside of the crop is it’s tricky to harvest - being such a thorny plant. That’s probably why no one else in the UK has farmed them commercially,” he explains.

The fruit of the plant has a very high vitamin C content - about 12 times than of an orange. Seaberries also contains carotenoids, vitamin E, amino acids, dietary minerals, beta-sitosterol and polyphenolic acids.

Taywell's refreshing drink (a mix of seaberries and Kent apple juice) packs a single day’s maximum recommended vitamin C and vitamin E intake.
