UK adults more tired and stressed than ever, reveals Pharmaton's Fight Fatigue Report

Britain has been revealed as a nation of tired and stressed out people. That's according to new research launched in Pharmaton's Fight Fatigue Report.

The report, which family GP and broadcaster Dr Chris Steele has contributed to, uses data from an independent survey of over 1,100 people throughout the nation. The survey asked UK adults how tiredness affects their daily lives, from their work, to social lives, relationships and family life.

Shocking stats include the finding that almost one in four people feel exhausted every single day, and one in ten people have had time off work recently due to tiredness! Work is clearly stressing us out, with four in ten people saying that their boss doesn't see the pressure they put them under, and one in ten Brits admitting to falling asleep at their desk or crying at work because they are so exhausted.

It seems that life is just passing us by as we're too tired to do anything! Exercise appears to be the number one victim of fatigue with socialising not far behind - 45% of Brits admit they miss out on social occasions due to their tiredness, with 47% missing out on exercise. Fatigue also directly affects personal relationships, with 29% of people surveyed saying they have recently been too tired to have sex. This compares to just 17% in 2001.

So what are the causes of our stress and fatigue? Two in five Brits say it's work, work and more work (41%) which follows them home. Money matters (37%) are also a big factor, as are health or appearance issues (24%). And, perhaps not so much of a surprise, the vast majority of people - 77% - believe society is more pressured than it was five years ago.

As Dr Chris Steele explains: "The issue with daily fatigue is that most people can dismiss their common symptoms as ‘just being part of a busy lifestyle'. Feeling tired and lacking both motivation and concentration, are symptoms that can affect anyone who lives a full life, but what can go unnoticed is that daily fatigue is a problem that can affect a person's long term health and wellbeing."
