Sometimes, when you have your nose firmly stuck to the grindstone, you can forget to look up and acknowledge what is going on in your community.

Businesses must work harder than ever to keep going, and must keep internal costs to a minimum to survive. This includes keeping an eye on overheads and staff retention rates. It's expensive business replacing staff, and it effects the moral of the rest of the team.

Whitehead Building Services is one such business, working hard to pull together to get through the recession, and one of their tools is team working - raising funds for charity together.

Whitehead Building Services holds a Charity Golf Day every year and this year raised a staggering £10,000 in total, £3,000 of which was kindly donated to St David's Foundation. In September, a group of employees also took part in the St David's Foundation Snowdon Challenge, raising £1,600 by climbing Mount Snowdon together. Whitehead Building Services then matched their fundraising, taking the total donation to £6,200.

MD Rhys Morton said "it is important in these economic times for businesses to engage with their staff and fundraising as a team is an excellent way of doing this. The challenges undertaken really build team spirit, and strengthen motivation. We all pull together and do our bit for a very worthwhile cause." Rhys added, "We chose St David's Foundation because they work within our community, and nearly everyone has had experience of, or knows someone who has had experience of their work."

Kris Broome of St David's Foundation expressed his thanks to the Management and Staff at Whitehead Building Services "Whitehead Building Services are an excellent example of what can be achieved when people come together as a team. We are indebted to them for their support, and look forward to maintaining our relationship with them in the future."

St David's Foundation provides free at home hospice care to anyone who has been diagnosed with a life threatening illness. They have a full support network of Social Workers, Day Care Centres and Specialist Nurses, and at any one time may be caring for 1,000 patients each day.

Anyone can get involved with fundraising for St David's Foundation. They organise fundraising events throughout the year, or you can organise your own and they will provide tips and help. Telephone the fundraising team on 01633 271364 - or visit their website www.stdavidsfoundation.co.uk
