Gerald Green
Life changed forever for Gerald Green when he was struck down with life-threatening Asthma and Emphysema at the age of 45. Up to this he had been a General Foreman working in construction.

Having no success with normal drugs he began to look into the power of herbs and how to use them. This work resulted in his book ‘Breaking Through the Untouchable Diseases', which Wellbeing magazine reviewed in its November/December 2008 issue. (page 28).Since then he has dedicated his life to devising treatments to put auto-immune diseases like Crohn's, Disease, Systemic Lupis and Cancer into remission.

Gerald makes the bold claim that by using specific herbs and following a strict anti-Candida diet that 100% remission from these debilitating diseases is possible. He lists a huge range of foods which if taken to the ultimate would be a challenge for any cook in the kitchen. See box for a list of some of the foods to avoid:

Gerald claims that it is the drugs that are given to treat auto-immune diseases that kill off the good bacteria in our gut. These bacteria are necessary for everyday healthy living. They are the food source for the Candida. The killing off of all the good bacteria changes the nature of Candida from being friendly to unfriendly. The effect of this on the body is that the Candida changes from its original friendly yeast form to the hostile parasitic fungus that has the ability to mask out the effects of the auto-immune drugs. These claims have not been scientifically verified. But what is the evidence for the effectiveness of a diet free from Candida? A trawl through the Internet brings up a wealth of claims for the benefits of an anti-Candida diet. Lots of these claims are backed up by moving stories and testimonials.

Speaking with Gerald his anger and frustration about what he sees as ‘the continued blocking of his work by the medical and pharmaceutical industry' is evident. He told Wellbeing magazine that he had been promised some clinical trials by a doctor which would test his theory and treatments but they never happened. Professor Edzard Ernst is one of the leading professors of complementary medicine at Exeter University and has been described as the scourge of alternative medicine for publishing critical research. Wellbeing asked him about Gerald's work. He said

While controversy surrounds his methods of treatment in the world of conventional medicine, 64 year old Sue Bremner from Dorset is in no doubt about how his treatments have helped her. She told us: ‘ The guy is a miracle.. My system couldn't tolerate drugs and when I was given Ibuprofen it broke down. I became chronically ill with ulcerative colitis. Since beginning the treatment with Gerald six months ago I have a new lease of life which is totally without drugs'.

Another way of referring to an anti-Candida diet is as the alkaline diet. Dr Robert Young on his website HYPERLINK "http://www.phmiracleliving.com" www.phmiracleliving.com speaks about the benefits of a non-acidic or alkaline diet. This type of diet calms the emotions and increases levels of inner peace and contentment. He claims that it is the acid that is contained in certain foods that if it is not excreted through one of the bodily functions enters into the blood and tissues.
