Welcome East Sussex to the Jan/Feb 2010 Edition
My relationship with the hula hoop, sadly, has never blossomed. But, on a rainy January evening two years ago, on a friend's recommendation I arrive at a local hooping class, confident that now's the time to really embrace the sport. In fact, I might go so far as to say I was convinced that hooping was not only going to be my new favourite hobby, but it was going to transform my life, making me fitter and my stomach flatter - oh, and I could also impress my friends with hooping tricks and nimble routines.
So, can you imagine my excitement when, armed with my new correctly-sized hoop (for that was the problem before you see), I meet my teacher who turns out to be none other than the amazing bendy lady from the Fat Boy Slim video - you know the one who frolics on the downs in the sunshine to some rather funky beats. How can I not become hooping champion of Hove with such guidance! Sadly a week later I'm in A&E being diagnosed by an amused young doctor. A fleeting knee problem presumably connected to my over-enthusiastic hooping. Bad technique no doubt. My relationship with the humble hoop continues, and I must admit, after reading Happy Hooping watch out, I might just give it another go.
If hooping's not for you, why not have a look at the extensive list of activities, workshops and events happening across Sussex in our New Year What's On guide . Wishing you a very healthy and happy 2010!
