What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?
The colon, or large intestine, is the end portion of the human digestive system and a rather amazing five feet in length and two and a half inches in diameter. Its major functions are to eliminate waste and to conserve water, but it also houses friendly bacteria which synthesise valuable nutrients and minerals, and unfortunately more often than not, a lifetimeís build up of stagnant matter occurring from foods that contribute to the formation of excess mucoid substances. Since most of the foods eaten today are mucoid forming, and air pollution is too, this development is virtually universal. Waste material, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time (i.e. impacted faeces, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms etc.) poses several problems. Firstly, this material is quite toxic and these toxins can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired or weak. Secondly, impacted materials impair the colonís ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria-produced vitamins. And finally, a build up of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action, which causes sluggish bowel movements and constipation.
Intestinal toxicity is a common condition and prevalent in all civilised societies, particularly in the UK. Common signs include headache, backache, constipation, bad breath, body odour, skin problems, irritability, abdominal gas, bloating and diarrhoea to name but a few. People have experienced throughout history that when they ensure their colon is cleansed and healed, the wellbeing of the whole body is greatly enhanced.
So, what happens during a colonic?
In a 45 minute session approximately 15 gallons of water is used to gently flush the colon. Through appropriate use of massage, pressure points etc, the Colonic Hydrotherapist is able to work loose and eliminate far more toxic waste than any other short-term technique for example enemas, suppositories or laxatives. Rubber tubing carries clean, highly filtered water in, and waste out, in a gravity pressured system and is rarely painful. In fact most people actually enjoy it and are especially pleased with the unaccustomed sensation of feeling lighter, clean and clear afterwards.
Colonics usually take place in a private room with only the therapist present. He or she fully appreciates the sensitivity of the procedure and will help you to feel at ease. Your emotions will be acknowledged and honoured and personal dignity maintained. A knowledgeable Colonic Hydrotherapist can truly help you on your road to vital health.
