My relationship with the hula hoop, sadly, has never blossomed. But, on a rainy January evening two years ago, on a friend's recommendation I arrive at a local hooping class, confident that now's the time to really embrace the sport. In fact, I might go so far as to say I was convinced that hooping was not only going to be my new favourite hobby, but it was going to transform my life, making me fitter and my stomach flatter - oh, and I could also impress my friends with hooping tricks and nimble routines.

Mineral Makeup
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Many cosmetic companies have jumped on the mineral make-up bandwagon and produced a mineral foundation, though some of these have limited levels of minerals. However, the Jane Iredale mineral make-up range is different. Known as the skin-care make-up, it consists of pure minerals with natural pigments.
Zero Balancing
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Thich Nhat Hanh says: "if you touch one thing with deep awareness, you touch everything". When we touch with Zero Balancing, we engage not only the physcial body but the energetic make-up of a person. The simple and non-invasive touch of ZB invites the release of deeply held tension within the skeletal structure, promoting physical and emotional harmony; a feeling of being "balanced back to zero".

Wellbeing Magazine East Sussex Edition - Jan/Feb 2009

January/February 2010
Happy New Year. Many of us look forward with optimism that 2010 will see the end of the economic gloom. Actually 2009 was a good year for us as we took the advise of many key figures in the personal development arena and chose not to listen to news but kept focused on our intentions and plans and it seemed to work. Now is the time to refocus your goals but also to take action. It needn't be large overwhelming steps but just small daily ones, as they will achieve far more for you. We hope that this month's issue will inspire you to make one or two small steps and set you in the right direction for a healthy and happy 2010.
Hay Bath
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
Lying in a bed of damp hay might not seem like the most relaxing way to spend an afternoon....but then I'd never thought of heading to the heart of mainland Europe for a spa break before!

The Hay Bath is just one of a range of natural spa remedies being soaked up on a daily basis, as the Austrian Tyrol makes a name for itself as the spa capital of Europe. Forget orchids and lilies floating in the Far Eastern sunset; today, you can experience the same deep relaxation and de-stress just a 90-minute flight away - by Easyjet!

Hooping
Friday, January 1st, 2010
I don't know about you but I find that getting motivated to exercise can be quite a challenge. I love to feel fit and healthy and but working long hours, dark mornings and nights give me all the excuses under the sun not to get down the gym or go out for a run. I have been insearch of an exercise routine, something that excited and motivated me to get in shape.
Salt Therapy
Friday, January 1st, 2010
I'm sitting in a room, there is salt on the floor, walls and ceiling and it feels a bit like being at the beach on a winters day, except it isn't cold and we are wearing blue hair nets and covers over our shoes. A mother and father are playing with their daughter, pretending we are all in an igloo...
Mentoring
Friday, January 1st, 2010
‘Poppy, patience is a virtue.' May 2008: I am waiting, doggedly impatient. It could be for anything. A train, a birthday, a phone call. This happens a lot, to my family's frustration. Little did I know that this time would be one of the last, for although I hate to use the cliché of a ‘journey' this is essentially what the next 12 months would be.
Beetroot
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Beetroot has a higher sugar content than most vegetables. It is rich in vitamin C, fibre, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and folic acid. The leafy tops are an excellent source of beta-carotene, iron and calcium.
Hadlow Going Green
Friday, January 1st, 2010
‘Going green' is extending into new and unusual situations. In pursuance of ‘urban agriculture', people living in cities and towns have been encouraged to give serious consideration to installing a kitchen garden on balconies, flat roofs and other suitable high spaces. This initiative should be seen in light with statisticians' predictions suggesting that cities are more likely than rural areas to suffer the effects of any future food shortages. Now ‘greening up' is extending rapidly into country towns and villages - but not necessarily in order to produce food!
Healthy Bones
Friday, January 1st, 2010
As my regular readers are now no doubt aware, good nutrition can play a vital role in the prevention of disease and the reduction of symptoms. Arthritis and osteoporosis cost the NHS billions each year and much can be done to help prevention and alleviate pain. There are many factors to be taken into consideration with these complicated diseases and wear and tear and hereditary factors also have a role to play.
Monet Garden
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Midway along the Japanese bridge came a sublime moment of déjà vu. I had seen this view before, in countless posters, postcards and art books. Visiting Impressionist painter Claude Monet's personal Garden of Eden, I was staring at a pond. Not any pond, mind you - the pond. The one made famous by the acknowledged giant of the Impressionists at the end of his life. The blue sky reflected between the lilies, the sun-dappled water, the azaleas and weeping willows, just as it was captured by the Master's brushstrokes. Illusorily - the crowd had melted away.
Vianna Stibal
Friday, January 1st, 2010
When someone is diagnosed with a life threatening illness an individual can deal with the news in different ways; submission to the inevitable, a philosophical view but handing over responsibility to the medical profession awaiting a cure or there are those who take responsibility for their outcome, often treading a difficult path of inner soul searching.
Food Inc
Friday, January 1st, 2010
Probably from the supermarket, but do you know the journey and process before it gets there? Do you know what the list of ingredients are and where they originate? Do you know how the crops are grown, how the animals are reared and how the employees are treated to get your dinner on the plate? Do you know if the food you are eating is nutritious or whether it contains as much nutrition as the plastic wrapper it came in? Do you just trust the information on the packaging as proof of origin?
